Why Do Bad Things Happen to Good People?

Thank you for reading this and may God bless you tremendously in the name of our brother Jesus Christ!

I have often been posed with the question (either in my own head or from someone else): Why do bad things happen if there is a God out there who is supposed to love us? Why do young children die of terrific diseases, why do churches burn down and why do horrible natural disasters kill thousands of people at a time? If God is so loving and caring, how can these things happen?

Well, first of all we have to look at the likeness of our Father and Creator in order to discover His nature. We can find His nature in a nutshell in 1 John 1:5 which says: "This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all." Also in John 4:34 we read, "Jesus saith unto them; My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work." Jesus went on to heal people, cast out evil spirits and spread great knowledge to anyone who wanted to hear. This is God's Will.

If this is God's Will, then why do we encounter today the horrible things that I mentioned before? Again, we can find the answer in the Bible. Job 31:35 states: "Oh that one would hear me! behold, my desire is, that the Almighty would answer me, and that mine adversary had written a book." The adversary referred to here is satan, the devil or whatever the adversary goes by. The interesting thing here is the fact that Job is wishing that satan had written a book, like God did, so he could understand him better (think of the old saying "keep your friends close but your enemies closer"). Why hasn't satan written a book like God did? I can tell you. Satan does not want us to know that he exists! It has been said that satan's greatest trick (and yes he love to trick and mislead us) was to convince mankind that he does not exist. If satan can convince mankind that he does not exist then by default who does everyone blame for EVERYTHING? .....GOD!

So far we have learned that God is light and in Him is no darkness. Jesus did God's Will, and Jesus did only good things. We have also learned that there is an adversary even though he has done a good job at convincing us that he does not exist. Also, that same adversary wants us to believe that God should get the blame for all of the bad things that happen. Knowing this, we still do not understand why satan is allowed to wreak havoc on innocent people's lives. God is good, but why does evil still rear it's ugly face on this earth that God made for us? The answer......next post.

Much love to all of you! (even if only one person reads this) God Bless you in the name of our risen savior; Jesus Christ!

-Luke
